Ashebrooke Night of Lights 2015

Ashebrooke Night of Lights 2015

What is the Ashebrooke Night of Lights (NOL)?
For one night of the holidays (December 13th this year), the Ashebrooke neighborhood lights luminaries though out our neighborhood for a good cause. The tradition of luminaries comes from Mexico and is a beautiful way to celebrate the holidays in addition to the amazing holiday lights many of the neighbors put up each year.
The neighborhood adopted this tradition 10 years ago as a way for the neighborhood to help a young girl and her family living in the neighborhood. She had a rare eye cancer called bilateral retinoblastoma which was attacking her second eye and required frequent trips to Philadelphia for treatment. The first event was a wonderful success, with amazing lights and outreach from the community.
Because of the success of our first year, the neighborhood has continued the tradition selecting a new recipient each year. Ashebrooke is now on their 10th year! This year we will be supporting CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).
Just before 7:00pm on Sunday, December 13, neighbors place their bags along the street in front of their house, driveways, etc and light their luminaries. We’re lighting the way through our neighborhood for the benefit of others.
As people drive through the neighborhood, they may stop at the Hot Chocolate stand on Ashworth Dr where neighborhood kids will be happy to server thirsty passengers, The kids will be donating their proceeds to CASA.
Again this year the neighbors will have a LIVE Nativity scene!! Neighborhood kids will be taking turns in costume to celebrate the season. Elves will be handing out bingo sheets to the first 500 visitors for the kids to ‘find’ the unique decorations in the neighborhood.
Those driving through may make donations in marked buckets at the hot chocolate stand, nativity scene or the Elves spot. All proceeds will be given to CASA. For more information on CASA visit their web site at www.forsythcountycasa.org.
