Storytellers & Magicians Present Free Halloween Shows
Children, teens, and families across Forsyth County are getting into the spirit of the fall season and local libraries have lots of frightfully fun programs planned for the weeks leading up to Halloween.
Magician Tim Sonefelt brings his Not So Spooky Spectacular to the Cumming Library on Friday, October 21 at 2:00 p.m. Children of all ages will love his tall tales and slightly spooky magic tricks. Admission to the Not So Spooky Spectacular is free and no registration is required. Seating is limited, so please arrive early to secure your spot.
Later that evening, Sonefelt will appear at a special teen event at the Post Road Library. Terrifying Tales and Haunted Artifacts is Sonefelt’s collection of haunted objects and scary stories from the oral storytelling traditions of the South. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free for middle and high school students to attend.
For those who prefer the scientific instead of the spooky, the Post Road Library is hosting a fall-themed STEAM program focusing on the biological study of bats on Wednesday, October 19 at 5:00 p.m. This program is for students in grades K – 5 and will include information about bat species in Georgia, echolocation experiments, and a little science from our favorite bat-shaped superhero, Batman! No registration is required, but space is limited, so arrive early to secure your spot.
Families are invited to B.Y.O.P. (Bring Your Own Pumpkin) and decorate it at the Hampton Park Library’s fourth annual Pumpkin Festival. The Pumpkin Festival will be held Thursday, October 20 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Hampton Park Library’s parking lot. Patrons of all ages are welcome to participate and the library will provide a variety of materials for patrons to decorate their own pumpkins.
Each library branch will host Trick-or-Treat Storytime events featuring family-friendly Halloween stories, music, and activities. Children are invited to dress up and participate in a costume parade around the library as they trick-or-treat with library staff. Visit the library’s online event calendar for a listing of Trick-or-Treat Storytime programs.
Storyteller Barry Stewart Mann will visit the Cumming Library on Thursday, October 27 at 6:30 p.m. for a special storytime celebrating El Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. Mann will present traditional Latin American stories and poems in both English and Spanish as he highlights the customs and folklore surrounding the holiday. This program is open to all ages and to speakers of every language. No registration required.
