Question & Answer with Sulyndia Mitchell
1. Having a restaurant during a pandemic has to be so hard, what are you doing now to stay relevant to your customer?
We’ve worked really hard to keep our restaurant a very clean and safe space for our guests. We are continuously cleaning and sanitizing menus, tables, condiments, etc. We require our staff to wear masks at all times while keeping a friendly and welcoming demeanor with guests. We also recently updated our outdoor space so that it is a little oasis and big enough for our guests to be safely distanced. Our patio has a relaxing environment and contains TVs, a fan, and flowers for guests.
2. You temporarily closed, did you have any customers upset about it?
No, most people were very understanding and were supportive of our decision to temporarily close our doors. When we reopened, we found that the community really wanted to support small businesses like ours. The community really came out to support our restaurant more than ever. We didn’t have any issues with our guests and they were just so excited that we made it through.
3. How’s the business doing now?
The business has been doing very well since reopening, thanks to the support of the community. The community and Forsyth County have been extremely supportive and continue to visit us on a regular basis.
4. What changes did you make that are making your restaurant safe?
Like I said above, we made changes to how often we were cleaning and sanitizing all high-touch objects around the restaurant to keep guests safe, as well as keeping our employees and guests safe by requiring staff to wear masks. We also added a visible sanitation station with hand sanitizer available to all guests.
5. Any specials you can share with us?
Please see the attached picture of our chalkboard. Currently, we have specials almost every day. Wednesdays are definitely our busiest day, as we have $1 oysters (raw or steamed) all day long. We reopened on a Wednesday in May and we had a waitlist for people coming in that day for the special. We will also be featuring live Maine lobster once a month. We post our specials on social media often to keep our customers up to date.
6. Is there anything else you would like to tell my audience?
We appreciate our community and Forsyth County for supporting all our local businesses and we look forward to seeing everyone again in the Shack for “a good Shuckin’ time”
