Family conversations can be challenging sometimes and it can be hard to start up a conversation with your family. Around October of last year, I started looking for a list of fun family conversation starters and randomly found this treasure called Here’s A Question online. I decided to purchase this 357 page book as a gift for my kids (age 5 and 7) for Christmas. Since Christmas this book has been a staple for us.
A couple weeks ago, I decided to look into the writer and company behind the book. To my surprise I found out they are a local company located in Alpharetta! After reaching out to them, they agreed to let me write up this article and provide 5 books to give away to my readers. I am thrilled to be able to share with you about this fabulous family resource. It really is one of the best family conversation starters I’ve found.
Now I know you can easily google “fun family conversation starters” and find plenty of online resources. However, I recently read this article – Parents: Get Off Your Phone by Tim Elmore and it encouraged me that it’s a good practice to put your smartphone down to really connect with your family. I think having something hand-held that’s not technology makes a big difference. Now, it’s only been a few months since we’ve been using this book at family dinners out or on road trips. But our conversations are much richer as a family because of it. I can’t wait to use it on our 6-hour drive for spring break!
Sample Questions
If you are anything like me, you might like to see some of the questions provided. Remember, these are family conversation starters. We usually pass the book around and everyone gets to ask one question. Once the question is asked, we typically have some discussion after it. The book is the ignition to simply start the family conversation.
- What would you buy if money really did grow on trees?
- What things would you do if you were never embarrassed?
- Would you tell on a friend if he or she stole something?
- Who is the most successful person you know and why?
- How many candy bars will you eat in your lifetime?
- Would you rather have one loving friend forever or $5,000,000?
As you can see the questions are really good. And I have to say that they are ageless. My husband and I have had fun time answering the questions as well!
Note: There are a few questions that might not be age appropriate for younger children. I usually just skip over those and know that one day they will be good to ask. One example is – “Why are girls gross at 7 and amazing at 17?” Yeah – not ready to talk to my kids about that, lol!

More About Here’s a Question:
The purpose of this project is to unlock the dialogue many families, including ours, struggle to engage in. We live in a culture that moves us toward isolation and concealment. Our goal is to see families break the trend and grow closer through great conversations. Children express themselves in many ways, they are all different. But unlocking a great conversation can sometimes be challenging.
All of our efforts at Here’s a Question are designed to make your family laugh and enjoy quality time together. Whether it be around the dinner table, riding in the car or anywhere you spend time together.
Our hope is that your quality time will be enhanced and that your family will enjoy sharing, laughing, and learning about each other. We’ve found that as the kids become more comfortable answering fun questions it paves the way for us to approach the more difficult questions in life.
